Analyzing this advertisement about Porsche bashing Nissan and Mitsubishi. Take a look at this advertisement:

Porsche

Ok. Let us start analyzing this advertisement. The brand that is being showcased here is Porsche. Porsche is a luxury brand that is known to many people and statures as itself as a luxury brand among others, but to what extent?

This is what a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution looks like:

Now let’s see what a Nissan Sentra looks like:

SHAPES (yes shapes. Deal with it)

The shapes that are being portrayed in this advertisement are circles, trapezoids, and a car shape. This may look weird or childish at first, but believe me, these shapes would help you to understand the true meaning of the ad. The circles are the headlights and the wheels, the trapezoid is the windshield, and the car shape is the car itself. Yes, the car shape is the car itself.

COLOR  AND TEXTURE

The color of the advertisement seems to be the generic black and white simplistic  advertisement that millennial seem to adore in our society today. The texture of the advertisement seems vintage but modern look at the same time because in the era that we are living now, a lot of people like vintage items or style.

POSITIONING OF THE SUBJECTS

The element of positioning is a major element in n advertisement. We can determine the main focus of the advertisement just by looking at the positions of each individual subject. The classic Porsche 911 (which is the car in the advertisement) is positioned int he center of the ad because it is the main focus of the ad. The text is positioned on top of the car and it is on a large and bold font because it is tying to catch the eye of the reader and trying to relay an important message. The text below the car (the smaller one) is added there to give extra information about the Porsche 911.

CONTEXT AND RELEVANCE

The context of the ad is also very important. The context is that the Porsche is bashing Nissan and Mitsubishi because the ad is trying to say that Porsche cars are better than Mitsubishi and Nissan cars. (So arrogant but true though)

To some extent, Porsche bashing Nissan and Mitsubishi is ethical but not okay to some extent because it is degrading the name or brand of the companies. Mitsubishi acted in a professional manner by not bashing Porsche back, but as for Nissan, it’s a different story. The whole Porsche bashing Nissan and Mitsubishi probably started with Nissan bashing Porsche first in their ad campaign, and beating Porsche in a race, and Porsche reacted by bashing Nissan back and including Mitsubishi because Mitsubishi and Nissan are allied together. Thanks to Nissan, a rivalry has sparked between Nissan and Porsche that has lasted til now. In today’s society, other advertisements have already resorted to bashing other companies in advertisements. An example of these kinds of advertisements is the Samsung ad for the new Note 9. It directly bashed against Apple’s iphones. Apple did not even react to Samsung bashing them because they were confident in their own product.

This is our analysis about the Porsche ad. Do you think that Porsche was right to bash Nissan and Mitsubishi for appealing to the common person? Would you rather buy a Porsche, Nissan or Mitsubishi? Tell us you answer at our Facebook page or post a comment.
